Purpose

As a digital health professional, you will need to be able to communicate your ideas to various stakeholders in and out of healthcare organisations through digital platforms. This assessment develops your awareness of your own communication style and provides ‘hands-on’, practical experience developing media for communication.

Task details

You will reflect on your communication style and develop two pieces of digital communication. You will then reflect on your design process including your choices and considerations.

Instructions

There are three parts to this assessment. Complete the following steps for each.

Part 1

  1. Take the Communication style self-assessment and calculate your results.
  2. Write a brief (150–175-word) reflection on your style and how you relate to it (agree/disagree, considerations).

Note: you will take the quiz and discuss your results in the Week 1 workshop.

Part 2

  1. Register with FreeLogo Design and create a logo that represents you and your interests.

You may wish to refer to the colour wheel in designing your logo.

  1. Write a brief (150–175-word) reflection on your logo design and your design choices.

Note: you will develop your logo in the Week 2 workshop.

Part 3

  1. Write a 60-second video script to introduce yourself to your audience.
  2. Practise delivering the script.
  3. Record your video introduction. (See a list of resources for making videos below.)
  4. Write a brief (150–175-word) reflection on making your introductory video (how you wanted to present yourself, your choices, etc.).

Present the three parts together in one report using the following headings:

  • Communication style (include the quiz results and your reflection)
  • Logo (include the logo and your reflection)
  • Introductory video (include the video script and your reflection).

Note: you will use the logo and introductory video as part of your Assessment 2.

You are not required to use outside sources for this assessment; however, if you do use outside sources, you must reference appropriately using APA7th as your referencing style. For more information, see the Academic Referencing Tool of the Library.

The reference list is not included in the word count. In-text citations are included in the word count.

Assessment criteria

This assessment will measure your ability to:

  • Define and reflect on your communication style (20%)
  • Develop and reflect on the design of a logo (30%)
  • Create and reflect on an introductory video (30%)
  • Communicate clearly and professionally (20%)
