Preplanning instructions

Poster - Health Education Resource

The purpose of this task is to design a health education resource in the form of a digital poster in response to the chosen public health issue. Careful consideration of text and other material should be exercised to ensure that the resource content is relevant, focused, and engaging for the target audience.

Specific Content Guidance

Most effective health promotion/health education programs will utilize public health education resources, tools, and materials to promote positive health and well-being interactions and outcomes to the public at large in the community context. These materials are designed to complement and integrate with other health education program activities rather than a ‘stand-alone’ activity/resource. However, in the context of this assessment task, we are looking at it as a specific activity to assess.

Task Description

  1. Public Health Issue: infectious diseases- Chlamydia infections Select a specific public health issue and corelate it to the health promotion perspective and identify a client group or target population or community for your health promotion program.
  1. Develop a digital poster to create health awareness from the practitioner role targeting general population:

Design a digital poster to create health promotion awareness addressing the chosen health issue and targeting the general population.

  1. Instructions:

As part of this assessment, students are required to develop a poster that serves as a public health education resource.

NB: The poster should be similar to those found in community or GP clinics' waiting rooms. You will need to submit a one-page PDF or JPG image document into Moodle Dropbox. This activity provides an opportunity for creativity within an academic context. It is important to find a balance between academic material, such as facts, statistics, and citations, and appealing to the lay public. Overloading the poster with academic material tends to make it unappealing to the targeted audience. On the other hand, too much glamour and glitz can obstruct the critical health information conveyed.

The primary consideration for this assessment is ensuring that it is appropriate for the intended audience. In this case, the target audience is the general public related to the community population. This means that the poster should address media/health literacy considerations such as cultural (CALD/Indigenous) and educational (age/readability) issues. The evidence base for this assessment is literature/website resources that you will include in your material as a reference and links to supporting material. These resources must be quality-checked by you to ensure that they are appropriate and legitimate for a public lay audience.

Word count is an essential consideration for this assessment, with a 1200- word equivalence. This means that the quality and effort applied to the poster should be equivalent to that of a 1200-word essay assignment. It is not a requirement to include a specific number of words within the poster.

Overcrowding the poster with written material is not recommended and is not considered best practice, even if you have come across such posters before.

  1. Submission: Please note the following guidelines for submitting your assignments:

o All assignments must be submitted through Turnitin, which is now included in the Moodle Assignment Dropbox.
