As a leader, you have been tasked with communicating an organisational strategy change that may not on the surface seem like a good change for everyone. You first need develop a communication plan with a critical justification and reflection about your plan and why you are choosing this approach. You are then required to communicate the change through a video and a written email to employees.

Specific Requirements

This assessment task is to be undertaken individually and involves the communication of an identified leadership decision. It requires completion of three related pieces of work (Parts A, B and C):

Part A. Written self-reflection (1000 words) 15%

This piece requires students to outline their plan for the communication of the identified decision, including discussion of how their plan has been guided by evidence-based leadership concepts.

This written reflection must include:

  • A plan for communication
  • Your position and rationale for the approach as informed by the literature
  • minimum of at least 7 referred journal articles
  • Must include a reference list in APA-7 Referencing Style

Part B. Written communication (500 words) 10%

Students will produce an email to employees in relation to the strategy change. The email will need to include the information relevant to the decision in a manner as consistent with the communication plan from Part A.

Part C. Video presentation (5 minutes) 10%

Students will present a 5-minute speech to employees in relation to the strategy change. The speech will need to include the information relevant to the decision in a manner as consistent with the communication plan from Part A.

  • The instruction for the video upload via DeakinAir will be provided on CloudDeakin

ALL THREE PARTS (A, B AND C) ARE DUE AT THE SAME TIME, WITH ONE SUBMISSION OF ALL THREE. All

three parts will be marked as a portfolio together.

Learning Outcomes

This task allows you to demonstrate achievement towards the unit learning outcomes. The ULOs are aligned with specific graduate learning outcomes – that is, the skills and knowledge graduates are expected to have upon completion of their studies – and this assessment task is an important tool in determining achievement of those outcomes.

If you do not demonstrate achievement of the unit learning outcomes, you will not be successful in this unit.

It is good practice to familiarise yourself with the ULOs and GLOs as they provide guidance on the

knowledge, understanding and skills you’re expected to demonstrate upon completion of the unit. In this

way they can be used to guide your study.
