Scenarios Assessment 3 EDEC101

Scenario 1:

You are an ECT in an early childhood education centre, and you are responsible for supervising a group of preschool-aged children. Among the children, there are a few currently displaying challenging behaviours, including one child who tends to be aggressive towards others and another who frequently attempts to arrange furniture in a dangerous way, posing a safety risk.

As you're overseeing the children, you notice that the child with aggressive behaviour has started to push another child who is playing peacefully, knocking over their block tower in the process. At the same time, another child has begun to pile chairs on top of each other, creating an unstable tower that could easily topple over. Additionally, another child approaches you, asking excitedly about the insects they found outside during free play.

The other staff member in your room is busily chopping vegetables for afternoon tea.

What do you do? How do you prioritise addressing both the safety concern and the behavioural issue simultaneously? What steps would you take to ensure the safety of all children while also managing the challenging behaviours effectively?

Scenario 2:

You are an ECT in an early childhood education centre, and you're responsible for supervising a group of preschool-aged children. At lunchtime, you notice some challenging behaviours, one child has begun to wander off from the designated eating area and is heading towards the kitchen area where hot food is being prepared. At the same time, a child with ADHD is running around the room, touching other children's food and throwing utensils. Meanwhile, another child has spilled their drink, is now visibly upset, with their clothes soaked and starting to cry.

One of the staff at you service is tediously serving food, whilst another is cleaning the dishes in the kitchen.

What do you do? How do you prioritise addressing all the safety concerns and behavioural challenges simultaneously? What steps would you take to ensure the safety and emotional needs of all children?
